Promoting Positive Mathematics Attitudes: Finishing Strong and Bridging through Summer

Location: Logan, West Virginia

Description: At this workshop, participants shared and reflected on the use of research-based strategies to foster positive mathematics attitudes with middle school students and their families. The workshop featured three station activities. Station 1 includes templates and resources that can be used to develop a campaign to build family awareness of mathematical mindset. Station 2 includes math games which may support the development of positive math attitudes and mastery of math content through increased student motivation, more opportunities for participation, and immediate feedback. Station 3 includes tools and resources that help students reflect on the problem-solving process and use visual representations.

Audience: This session is intended for classroom and afterschool educators seeking to improve students’ mathematical mindsets.
