Description: The Minnesota Department of Education’s State Professional Development Grant (SPDG) focuses on increasing the graduation rates of American Indian students receiving special education services and has partnered with REL Midwest, Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College, and Minnesota Department of Education Special Education Workforce Specialist to aid in this work. In order to effectively center Indigenous voices and perspectives to support Indigenous teachers and students, it is imperative to prioritize inclusivity, respect, and collaboration. This session will discuss how those seeking to partner with Indigenous communities to shape educational policies and curricula need to actively seek input and guidance from Indigenous elders, leaders, and educators.
