Using Evidence to Address Gaps and Areas of Interest for Oregon Literacy Framework

Northwest | March 14, 2023

In its second session, REL Northwest continued its training with Oregon Department of Education (ODE) partners on evidence from the What Works Clearinghouse (WWC) Practice Guides that can address the gaps and revision needs identified in the first session. Prior to Session 2, REL Northwest developed summaries from the WWC Practice Guides based on the needs identified in Session 1. During Session 2, REL Northwest presented an overview of these summaries and engaged ODE in an activity designed to align the summaries with specific sections of the framework. REL Northwest then had ODE partners work in small groups to incorporate new learnings and understanding of the guides’ format, rigorous research standards, and specific elements of the evidence for best practices in literacy. Next, REL Northwest used a feedback protocol to collect key takeaways from the research review that can be incorporated into a new draft of the framework.
