Supporting Early Career and Aspiring Teachers

REL Southwest is partnering with the Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) to support the recruitment, preparation, and retention of new teachers. The Supporting Early Career and Aspiring Teachers (SECAT) partnership will examine how the New Teacher Experience, a comprehensive induction program from the LDOE, and other recruitment, preparation, and retention programs address the state’s goal to recruit, support, and retain early career teachers. This partnership seeks to support LDOE and other state and local education agency partners to use evidence to improve existing programs for aspiring and early career teachers. Planned activities include evaluation coaching, data reflection coaching, and studying program outcomes.

Partner organization: Louisiana Department of Education

Current Projects

REL Southwest is providing coaching to Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) staff on best practices in formative program evaluation, with a focus on evaluating LDOE’s comprehensive induction program, the New Teacher Experience. LDOE requested REL Southwest support in four key areas of program evaluation: refining the survey questions for teacher and mentor participants, supporting focus group protocol creation and administration, developing an implementation rubric that details district-level program fidelity, and identifying administrative data elements that participating districts collect, which can be used for a future study on New Teacher Experience outcomes.

No completed projects at this time.
